Yikes, My KVM has stopped working! Which means that short of an unfeasible amount of cable plugging & unplugging I can't control the 5 PCs in the basement which are the bulk of the farm. At present my stats are holding up, so presumably all is well even if I can't see anything, but expect some drop off until I get it working again or replace it. _________________ Willie the Megacruncher

Why? Surely they are all connected to BAM! (or equivalent) and therefore will quite happily chug away, change projects and such like without any actual direct contact... Or do you have them so overclocked that they need constant maintenance? _________________

I've tried BAM but there's nothing like hands on one to one contact with each cruncher every day. I've given up on overclocking but some of the dual GPU machines do need the odd kick to get going again if they stop for whatever reason.
Thankfully they seem to be doing okay in the dark without Daddy to keep them right. _________________ Willie the Megacruncher

Now did your KVM stop working because it is broken, or because your computers are now self aware, and are trying to take over the world?
You should not leave them unsupervised for long, or we may need to welcome our new crunching overlords.

It's alright the Skynet scenario has not come to pass! Although after reading your post I did fear to enter the basement lest the farm had found some way of mixing PC spares and bicycle parts to construct a murderous cyborg, all the while arranging a nuclear cataclysm!
No, all it took was a replacement AC adapter from Maplin to get the errant switch operational again and it's business as usual. _________________ Willie the Megacruncher

Is that all it takes to save the planet from total destruction and evil world domination schemes.... perhaps we should inform the MoD... _________________ "Hello, Myrtle, put the wizard on the wire. He's in the sanctum."

I wonder how much Boinc is worth annually to Maplin _________________

Yes the Mighty One's torrent has slowed to a trickle over the last 48hrs: Down from a customary 5 or 6 Meg daily to 302K on sunday & 512 on Monday.
Could be he's caused a melt-down in his local sub-station [again ] or a UN Task Force against Global Warming has realised that his house is using more 'lecky than India and China combined & troops have been sent in to switch everything off apart from a laptop running simap?
Whatever Steve, hurry back. UBT are getting further ahead of us, there are the Italians to catch and, for once, a lot of us are gaining on you. And you've got that world #2 slot to secure. _________________ Willie the Megacruncher

.... hopefully it's just a case of spring cleaning ...he needed the wall socket to plug in the vacuum cleaner... UN sez' they can't spare the task force as they're all tied up elsewhere... _________________ "Hello, Myrtle, put the wizard on the wire. He's in the sanctum."

That's 5 days with minimal crunching and no word from Steve.
The positive spin we can put on this, otherwise worrying, situation is that our daily output is still enough to keep us in the top 40 teams each day - ie even without our star player we remain a world class team.
But, Holy AWOL Big Hitters, what's happened to Aardvark also zilcho for 48 hrs? _________________ Willie the Megacruncher

| DNETC, ANDROintc and to a lesser extent Milkyway have become very unreliable over the last few days. I have been recieving fantastic credit from the first two projects but as they have bee down I have had to rely on Milkyway and docking for credit. If Steve has not been checking his farm this may account for the loss of output...... |
